About a three-minute drive from Uncle’s House, there is a cafe and bar called Sanpana.
It has become the place we stop at almost every time we’re in Motobu.
A small room surrounded by green

The building sits among the trees, easy to miss if you aren’t looking for it.
It’s a small cafe in the middle of the greenery. You sit down, and after a while you realize you have no particular reason to leave. That kind of place.
It isn’t a lively tourist cafe. If you’re looking for somewhere quiet, this is the one.
Burgers on bread made with Ie Island wheat

For lunch, the burger is what I’d recommend.
The ingredients come from Okinawa, and the bread is baked in-house using wheat grown on Ie Island. Ie Island is the one you can see to the right from the balcony at Uncle’s House.
The island you’ve been looking at all week, and the wheat from it is sitting right there on your plate. It makes for a good moment. There’s something about eating food that’s connected to the place you’re staying in.
They also make juice from island bananas — a small, dense variety grown in Okinawa. It’s sweet and thick, quite different from an ordinary banana. It’s seasonal and made in small batches, so if it’s on the menu that day, order it.
For dessert, the homemade chiffon cake is worth saving room for.

A bar in the evening
The cafe becomes a bar at night.
I haven’t been in the evening yet. But a quiet drink in that room, surrounded by dark trees, sounds like a good way to end a day. It’s on the list for the next trip.
